Gravel is often the right answer for long rural driveways, farm access roads, secondary drives, and any property where asphalt cost isn't justified by the traffic. A properly built gravel drive drains well, holds its shape, sheds water, and can be resurface-topped with fresh stone every few years for a fraction of an asphalt install. A poorly built one washes out, ruts, and turns into an axle-deep mess after every rain.
The difference is base and drainage. Our gravel drives start with the same site work as an asphalt drive: clearing, grading, cut-and-fill, sub-grade compaction, and where needed, geotextile fabric to separate base from clay sub-grade. Then a properly sized base course (typically #57 or #4 crushed stone at 4"–6") is placed and compacted, followed by a #89 or crusher-run top course that binds and holds a crown.
Crown matters. A gravel drive built flat holds water; a drive built with 2%–3% crown sheds water off the sides, keeps the driving lane firm, and dramatically extends the life between resurface top-ups. We build every gravel drive with proper crown and cross-slope, and we install culverts where the drive crosses swales or drainage courses.

We can build 100 feet or 3,000 feet with the same equipment and same specification, and we quote every gravel job in writing with stone type, tonnage and grading spec called out.
