Overview

What Concrete Repair Really Involves

Most commercial lots need concrete work alongside their asphalt — curb and gutter, sidewalk panels, dumpster pads, ADA ramps, detectable warning surfaces, and driveway approach aprons at street entries. Splitting those scopes between a paving contractor and a separate concrete contractor typically means longer schedules, coordination headaches, and finger-pointing at the joints. We handle both trades in-house, so one project manager owns the whole job from site walk to final walk.

Curb and gutter work covers new installs (extruded or formed), repair of damaged sections (typically from truck impact or freeze heave), and full replacement where curb is broken beyond repair. We tie curb into existing catch basins and drainage properly, so water follows the curb the way it was designed to.

Sidewalks and dumpster pads are where a lot of properties show wear first. Cracked, heaved or spalled sidewalk panels are trip hazards and liability. Failed dumpster pads — cracked from garbage-truck fork loads — are common. We saw-cut damaged panels, remove and haul off debris, form and pour fresh 4"–6" concrete over compacted stone base, finish to match surrounding surface, and cure properly.

ADA ramps and detectable warning surfaces are the compliance-critical concrete work. Ramp slope, landing area, side-flare geometry, and truncated-dome placement all have federal spec, and getting any of them wrong means the ramp isn't compliant even if it looks right. We install to current ADA-Accessible design and document the finish for your compliance file.

Middle Georgia Context

Middle Georgia weather, drainage patterns, traffic, and site conditions can all affect asphalt performance. Quality Paving evaluates each property individually and recommends scope based on observed conditions, intended use, materials, drainage, and scheduling needs rather than making predictive pavement-life promises.

Our Process

How We Deliver Concrete Repair

  1. 01

    Scope Walk

We walk the site with you, note every concrete element, photograph and measure damaged sections, and quote a written scope with concrete class, thickness, reinforcement and finish spec.

  2. 02

    Saw-Cut & Demolition

Damaged sections are saw-cut on clean joint lines and removed to the sub-grade. We do not break out into surrounding sound concrete without a clean cut.

  3. 03

    Base Prep

Compacted stone base placed and levelled to the proper depth for the concrete thickness (typically 4" residential sidewalk, 6" dumpster pad, 6"+ for truck-trafficked areas).

  4. 04

    Formwork & Reinforcement

Wood forms set to grade, expansion joints planned, rebar or wire mesh placed per spec.

  5. 05

    Pour & Finish

Concrete placed, screeded, floated, and finished (broom finish for pedestrian traffic, smoother finish for aprons, and truncated-dome inserts for ADA ramps).

  6. 06

    Cure & Reopen

Curing compound applied, forms pulled at appropriate time, and reopen schedule (usually 7 days for pedestrian traffic, 28 days for full design strength).

Frequently Asked

Questions About Concrete Repair

How long does concrete take to cure?

Foot traffic in 24–48 hours; light vehicle traffic in 7 days; full 28-day design strength for heavy loads. We schedule around your operations.

Do you handle ADA ramps?

Yes — ADA-compliant ramps with detectable warning panels are one of our common scopes. We install to current federal spec.

Can concrete be poured in winter?

In Middle Georgia we pour year-round except during actual cold snaps. Cold-weather protection (insulating blankets, admixtures) is used when needed.

Curb replacement vs. curb repair — which do I need?

Sections that are cracked and displaced typically need replacement of the whole panel. Cosmetic spalling or small chips can be patched. We tell you honestly on site.

What about tree-root damage?

Root-heaved sidewalks require root pruning or removal along with panel replacement, or the new panel heaves the same way. We coordinate root work with the pour.

How thick should a dumpster pad be?

6" of reinforced concrete over 4"–6" of compacted stone base is our minimum spec for garbage-truck loads. Thinner pads crack under fork loading within a couple of years.

Owner's Guide

Maintenance Tips For Concrete Repair

  • Seal control joints on sidewalks and pads with elastomeric sealant every few years to keep water out.
  • Address settlement early — a settled panel is a trip hazard and a liability claim waiting to happen.
  • Keep planting beds away from curb and sidewalk edges; roots and irrigation are the biggest sources of concrete damage.
  • Photograph dumpster pad wear annually — pads that are cracking radially from center are close to failure.
  • Combine concrete repair with any asphalt or striping scope; joint work is faster and cheaper than repeat mobilizations.
