Parking lot signage is where a lot of properties silently fail compliance. Missing R7-8 accessible-parking signs, R7-8 signs mounted too low, missing van-accessible plaques, missing fire-lane signage, faded stop signs — every one of them is an enforcement risk, and every one of them is a fast, inexpensive fix if a property owner knows what to look for.
The signs we install regularly: R7-8 accessible parking with Georgia-specific fine text (mounted with sign bottom at 60" minimum above pavement); R7-8P van-accessible plaques below R7-8 at van-accessible spaces; R1-1 stop signs at drive intersections and lot exits; W17-1 speed bump advisory at bump approaches; fire lane signage per local marshal (typically red text on white or reflective sheeting, with 'FIRE LANE — NO PARKING' text at prescribed intervals); one-way, no-parking, reserved, EV charging, curbside pickup, tow-away, and custom tenant signage.
Sign quality and mounting details matter. We use MUTCD-standard aluminum signs with high-intensity or diamond-grade reflective sheeting (not the cheap engineering-grade sheeting sold at big-box stores). Posts are 2"–3" galvanized steel or 4x4 pressure-treated wood, set in concrete footings sized for local wind loads. Sign heights, offsets from pavement, and orientations follow MUTCD guidance so signs are visible at required approach distances.
Coordination with striping is the norm. When we're re-striping an ADA layout, we install or verify signage at the same time so the whole accessible-parking scope is compliant when we leave. Where signage is added standalone (a new fire lane, a new speed advisory), we schedule the install with any adjacent striping and stencil work as one visit.
